We all know the story. A young couple meet, fall in love, get married and start to put down roots. The future is bright. A home is bought and with two incomes our young couple are living the Canadian dream.

Eventually our young couple has a child, maybe two. Mom ( sometimes Dad) quits her job to stay at home to raise the little ones. This decision means a big pay cut. Throw in mortgage payments, saving for juniors education , turning on the lights and having a little food in the fridge. Before you know it our young couples finances are stretched tighter than a fat guy’s cummerbund at an all you can eat wedding buffet. They would like to have more kids but will probably stop at two.

How did society and culture develop in these early times? The Bible speaks of everything being created perfectly by Almighty God, but then it also describes how things went so terrible wrong suddenly, until we have a murder, and we have only reached Chapter 4 of Genesis.

Cain is so determined to create a worldly society - leaving God out of it - and this is where there is spiritual warfare today. But secular ways and secular things can be used of God. Our work - our industry - our service - our commercial transactions and trading - our music and culture - can all be redeemed by the saving Blood of Jesus Christ.

We almost brought home a pup when our daughter was 18 months old and I was pregnant with our son, Adam. At the last moment, we realized that this was probably not such a great idea. So we used the deposit for things our mischief-making, but much loved cat Snowy could use.

Our daughter Sarah was crushed. My husband told her that when we moved to a house and had a bigger yard that we would definitely get a dog then. We didn’t plan on moving for several years. But as life and Murphy’s Law would have it, we would up moving a year later. Sarah had learned how to take the safety gate off the stair case! So with her 6 month old brother in tow-we moved to a ranch-style home-quickly.
