Passion And Purpose At Work

April 10, 2008 By: admin Category: Self Improvement No Comments →

There’s much discussion these days about passion and purpose in the workplace. A Google search of passion at work results in 11,5000,000 hits. Many often confuse passion and purpose. A search of purpose and work results in 21,300 hits. Purpose in the workplace, 61,400.

So, what is the difference between passion and purpose and how do the two connect?

Purpose defines why one is on the planet. Some refer to purpose as a calling. Others, as ones “life work.”

Passion is energy - emotional, physical, mental, psychic and, often, spiritual that drives one and supports one to engage in, and focus on, ones efforts - sometimes purposeful, sometimes not.

You have the right and responsibility to control your self and your thoughts. You are the one that determines your emotional state by the way you have reacted to the situation.

Definition: Clar·i·ty from the Latin claritat-, claritas, from clarus, the quality or state of being clear.

Need a little clarity?

Sorry, but it’s not for sale. Unless you find yourself strolling the streets of the futuristic thriller “Minority Report”, where a drug called “clarity” can be bought quite readily. Coincidentally or not, off screen the film’s lead actor Tom Cruise espouses the creed of the Church of Scientology, where the goal is to become “A Clear”.

Comfort

March 22, 2008 By: admin Category: Self Improvement No Comments →

Everyone needs a word of comfort.

One day Almighty God inspired and motivated a man called Isaiah to speak a word of comfort to His people, and to speak that word tenderly.

“Comfort my people. Go and proclaim a message that will comfort these men and women.”

Comfort means to fortify or fortress. Encourage my people so that they become like a fort or an impregnable castle.

Put strength into their hearts. Enable them to face what they will have to face.

When you comfort someone you don’t molly coddle them, nor wrap them in cotton wool, by keeping them from the truth.

The Means To Measure Satisfaction
By TB Wright

As humans being, we all want. What those wants are, are different for everyone at different times. Some of us even manage to achieve our wants, yet not necessarily our satisfaction. This is because of the human reaction to achievement that I have seen in many people, and over a long period of observation. For the most part as soon as someone gets what they want, the achiever is elated, and then soon deflated. Why is that? Why would the accomplishment of a goal have as one of its core characteristics, this elation/deflation phenomenon? And then why does feeling this way then become a major issue for disappointment?

A Christian Is A Christian

March 07, 2008 By: admin Category: Self Improvement No Comments →

Our church and our pastor, although United Methodist, push for everyone to get involved in small groups. We have no adult Sunday School classes, in fact, choosing to focus on small group ministry instead.

We also use some of Rick Warren’s ideas. I know. Some folks don’t like him. But his lessons about being purpose driven have helped our church. And now we’re involved in the “40 Days of Community” spiritual growth campaign. The focus: What on earth are WE here for?

Today, as I sat scribbling notes while our pastor preached, I realized that the message applied to everyone, no matter what his/her faith or lack thereof.
